DBS Checks (formerly known as CRB checks)
DBS (Disclosure and Barring Services) checks are required in all walks of life if you work or in contact with children, vulnerable members of the public especially, but are not limited to just these areas as they are useful for people in positions of trust or responsible for large amounts of public/charitable funds or estates. You would like to think that a board or committee responsible for running a religious institution which has over a million pound in the bank and has hundreds of thousands of visitors through the course of a week of varying ages and capacity would have their DBS checks done.
So you will be very surprised to hear that the management committee of GNSG has no such checks done of its members. We know it is not because of cost implications because charities are entitled to these for free through the charity commission. So the Forum as a collective have decided upon sending the president of the management committee Mr Balbir Singh a letter asking for answers in regards to this matter or the matter to be addressed A.S.A.P, so that the congregation can be assured that there are no members of the committee with criminal records who could be detrimental to the Gurdwara Sahib and congregations well being.
As of yet no reply in writing has ever been received but the president Mr Balbir Singh has commented to members of the forum in the meeting room that there would be no DBS checks done, without giving any reason for why. This must have been an executive decision by Mr Balbir Singh himself, as we are aware that the letter was read out in the last ever committee meeting but was never discussed, so no resolution in regards to the letter was ever made.
